Sidney was born on 29th May 1887, the eighth of the eleven children of George and Isabella Watkins. He married Ann Paterson Kynoch on June 27th 1913 at the Central Hotel, Bridge Street, Aberdeen, according to the forms of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Sidney was then a Draper's Warehouseman aged 26, living at 89 Union Grove.
Sidney and Ann had 4 children:
Sidney served in the 3rd Gordons in the 1914-18 war, as indicated by the birth announcement in the Aberdeen Journal on 25th July 1915: "At 21 Hollybank Place, on 23rd July the wife of Private Sidney M.T. Watkins, 3rd Gordons, a daughter."
In 1922 (when he was executor of his sister Alberta's will) Sidney was still living at 21 Hollybank Place, Aberdeen, and he was described as a draper.
Ann died on May 26th 1956 aged 81. She and Sidney were then living at 7 Seafield Drive East, Aberdeen. Ann was buried in Springbank Cemetery, where the memorial stone also comemorates Sidney and their daughters. Sidney was living at Ayr with Nan when he died on July 29th 1969. Nan's married name was O'Leary. She died at Ayr on July 11th 1980. Helen's married name was Bannerman - she died on January 12th 1998. Hilda died on January 2nd 1994.
